Love Jesus

April 19, 2010 by dband

Last week, we had the memorial service for Levi Patrick. Levi was a 19 year old kid, star running back, track star, homecoming king, and lover of God. As people spoke about him I was struck by a recurring theme. Out of all his great skill, talent, athleticism, looks, etc…what impacted people the most about him was that he loved God.

I was overwhelmed… I waste so much time obsessing about what i’m “doing”, “producing”, “writing” for God… or trying to “prove” how I’ve “improved” our how I can “perform” for man!!

All things that end up being a big fat distraction from one thing… Loving God. People will think things about you. They will. What are we showing them? How we can perform? Why we should be respected? What we can do? How we can produce? How we can dream? Or how much WE LOVE JESUS.

I’ll get around to loving Jesus when I’m loved by the world. can anybody admit to that thought?
“gain the world…lose your soul” (Mark 8:36)

Let us return to our first love. (Revelation 2:4)

thank you Levi

Jon

  1. Jon,
Stop getting in my business. This is too close to home. stop it.
    just stop it.

    P.S. or don’t, and maybe I’ll be a better man for listening…

  2. Thank you for this! I’ve been kind of thinking along the same lines lately. Loving Jesus and others is the most important thing. God uses us in many ways to do and accomplish many things but it should all be to His glory! May the Lord keep us in check and guide us in everything we do so that we may not lose focus on Him and what is truely important and why we do what we do.
