I’ve been reading Donald Miller’s latest book called “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years.” Its a book about your story. What kind of story are you living? Our commitment to ease and comfort has robbed us of a great story. Its funny. Christianity has earned a reputation for being a “self-righteous, suit-wearing” people. Or labeled as conservative and safe! Of course, Christianity in its truest form is anything but EASY. God will make everything better! right? God will make everything right!! Right? Well yes, He will. Eventually all is made right. All is perfect. All is beautiful. The kingdom is coming! But for many who take on the cross of Christ and Kingdom today, it’s not ease that we are met with. Its conflict. Its risk. Christianity is the riskiest business today! God is dangerous, fearless, and ambitious. His desire to flood the earth with His GLORY is real. His plan to do that is just as real…US! The question is… are you in?
I have faced fear most of my life. I fear failure. I fear embarrassment and shame. I fear that my skills are not enough and that I will be made a fool in front of my fellow man. Some fear leaving home. Or death. Or fear itself! Fear seems to run ramp-id in mankind. Funny isn’t it that God’s plan to fill the earth with Glory is constantly looking inward in fear instead of outward in passion and readiness. Makes you wonder if there really is a spiritual war going on over our lives.
It’s real.
Freedom IS found in the Cross. The DNA of the cross is conflict and risk. It is dangerous, ugly, and bloody. But the result is CHANGE. Fear disappears, darkness flees, and the world looks quite a bit different. Kingdom comes near…
Take on the risky work of the cross, inherit the power of the cross.
Are you becoming lax, latching on to your comforts? Are you allowing yourself to get sucked in to the idea that faster, easier, and cheaper is our goal? Most people who live in the lap of luxury still lack something. They admit to lacking peace…or rest. True peace and rest can only come from God. Risk bonds us to those we risk with. God is inviting you to risk with him (Matt 28:19). If we choose to accept, we will bond with HIM. And while we find ourselves risking…while we find ourselves in conflict…we will be close to our Father, and find peace.
“Go… and surely I am with you…”
Step out…
Go risk. Meet conflict. Find God. Find Life.
